Former TechTV/G4 personality Kevin Rose has slowly become a leader in the world of underground technology. Known as “The Dark Tipper,” Rose began work as a technical production assistant for The Screen Savers on TechTV. He began “Dark Tips” which revealed little known computer tips, video game console hacking techniques, fun gadgets and a wide variety of legal hacking tutorials on making your computer function quicker.
Upon graduatinge from UNLV with a degree in computer science, Kevin worked for the Department of Energy as a technology advisor (Level L). Later he would move to San Francisco, California to work for different dot-com startups. During the dot-com crash, he eventualy found his calling at TechTV with The Screen Savers. From there, the tech-based audience began to assciate Rose with techology techniques which the big computer companies didn’t want you tinkering with.
In March 2004, G4 announced a merger with TechTV to form G4TechTV. After the merger, Rose’s The Screen Savers was renamed Attack of the Show! and became less of a technology show and more of one about pop-culture. Rose left the network on May 22, 2005 and became involved with podcasting/vid casting technology over the internet due to it’s closer to independent natures. Rose worked on thebroken while he was still at TechTV but ventured out to create Systm, Digg & Digg Nation. He also is a regular guest on This Week in Tech, a podcast involving former members of The Screen Savers.
